I have been quoted 2,000 Euros to replace 2 balcony sun canopies...tende  da sole..for my apartment, one measuring 3 metres the other 4metres wide. They are in a simple style, manual ie pulled up and down with a cord as I suspect electric ones would be prohibitively expensive. Does anyone have any experience? Does this price sound right and can anyone recommend any suppliers in the Liguria area?

That sounds about right if the quality's good (rugged fabric, heavy duty mechanism).  We got one upstairs, one downstairs (each 6 meters wide) for about that amount.  They have a manual crank and extend outward about 3 meters

We have just taken posession of our newly purchased groundfloor appartamento and it has a fantastic electric canopy which extends over the kitchen patio doors and continues over the window of the room next door.  I had not appreciated the cost our vendor must have paid for it.  I have one question though - it is attached to the underside of the long balcony of our neighbour above.  Presumably our vendor had permission from the neighbour to fix it there - what are the legal implications if it causes damage to their balcony?  I expect we will be responsible even though it was not us who ordered/carried out the work in the first place.

should you use the canopy you will be responsible if any damage occurs... to avoid this you could/can have it removed but also  make good the underside of the balcony...then again reflecting on the whole thing  there will be some condominium rule regardin the top and bottom areas of balcnies...ie should semething leak from the top onto your area... so there will most probably be some sort of shared responsibilty vis a vi how each balcony top and bottom is maintained....  look at any serious book shop in italy and half the window will be taken up by books on condominiums and their running... go to any court and most civil cases in Italy are to do with disputes re neighbours...so not so simple... simple might be keep bringing all the neighbours nice presents or cheaper but not so friendly act like murdering criminals...  with connections to even more murderous criminals and you will have a problem free life... well unless they ask you to get rid of the neighbour above them.... then you might have to own up

Thank you for your replies. Just a thought, are tende da sole the full responsibility of each apartment owner or does the condominium have some responsibility? For example, when we had to replace the tiles on the terrace (we are on the top floor and it was leaking ) and balconies, the condominium paid for part of it and we paid the rest.
