Travel through Italy with Rocky Ruggiero
Celebrated art historian Dr. Rocky Ruggiero offers opportunities for travel in Italy, online learning products - including video, documentaries, podcasts and blogs – as well as speaking events worldwide.
Dr. Ruggiero has been a professor of art and architectural history since 1999. He received his BA from the College of the Holy Cross and a Master of Arts degree from Syracuse University, where he was awarded a prestigious Florence Fellowship in 1996. He furthered his art historical studies at the University of Exeter, UK, where he received a Ph.D. in Art History and Visual Culture.
In addition to lecturing for various American universities in Florence, Italy, including Syracuse, Kent State, Vanderbilt, and Boston College, Rocky has starred in various TV documentaries concerning the Italian Renaissance. He recently appeared as an expert witness for NBC News, as well as in the History Channel’s “Engineering an Empire: Da Vinci’s World” and “Museum Secrets: the Uffizi Gallery”, and the recent NatGeo/NOVA PBS program on Brunelleschi’s dome entitled “Great Cathedral Mystery.” His online video lectures and documentaries entitled “Medici: The Art of Power” and “Italian Masterpieces” are airing on PBS in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
In Italy, Rocky offers private excursions and week-long programs in Florence, Rome, Venice, Siena and Northern and Southern Italy. Each program addresses the art, history, food, wine and culture of a specific city or region. Group size is normally limited to approximately 10 people in order to create an intimate learning environment.
Upcoming programs include Southern Italy (October 11 – October 17, 2020), Thanksgiving in Florence (November 22 – November 28, 2020), and the Palio (June 30 – July 4, 2021).
In the US, Dr. Ruggiero offers museum tours, lectures as a paid speaker on art and architectural history, educational seminars on subjects ranging from ancient art and architecture through to the Italian Baroque period, and cultural events throughout the country. Dr Ruggiero has sold out lectures at La Scuola of Eataly NYC Flatiron, Boston and Los Angeles, in addition to the Smithsonian Associates in Washington, D.C., the Getty Center in Los Angeles, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA.
