Orvieto Hosts Celebration of Gelato

| Wed, 04/30/2014 - 04:21

From tomorrow until Sunday, Orvieto will transform into a gelato party town, with I Gelati d’Italia event taking over its historic center.

Within the beautiful backdrop of Piazza del Duomo, Piazza del Popolo and Piazza della Repubblica, inside the courtyards and halls of Renaissance palaces, visitors will be able to enjoy tastings, workshops, cultural activities that explain the history and science of gelato, and performances, all to celebrate one of Italy’s signature food products, gelato.

Visitors will also be able to attend the classes offered by Carpigiani Gelato University, which will temporarily move its campus from the headquarters in Anzola dell’Emilia (Bologna) to Orvieto, to teach how to make gelato.

As many as 40,000 people attended last year and the numbers are expected to increase this year.

Gelato chefs from all the regions of Italy will prepare their creations live, inspired by their different regional identities and the season, and the public will be called to vote on the best regional gelato.

The best gelato chefs will be selected for the final of the Gelato World Tour, which will be held in Rimini September 5-7.
