11247 HELP - Page width!

HELP!
Before the change to the template - which is very nice and easy on the eye (thank you) - he pages/posts on the forums fitted my screen width.

But now with this new template, to be able to read each post I have to either continuously scroll 'across' the page or cancel my Bookmark Menu on the left of my screen. That really is a feature which I don't like. Is there any way I can make the page width fit my screen space - or is it something I'll have to 'live with'?

I have exactly the same problem and have mentioned it in another post, I await a reply but it's Christmas a really daft time to make big cbanges in my opinion!

I complained about the previous fixed-width column layout because it was too narrow and wasted a lot of screen space! It's still fixed, but a larger size, and it fits my screen much better...

Actually, fixed-width anything is very poor web design and should be discouraged any time someone does it. The problems are exactly as you might guess: too wide for some and too narrow for others. The designer has no control over the users' screen size or resolution.

What I did in the end was to modify the site at my end with a script which strips off the fixed-width attribute. The browser then happily fits everything into the available space.

If you are running Firefox, and have the Greasemonkey extension installed, you can have a copy of my script. (If you aren't, and aren't technical, it's probably too much hassle for you.) Click on http://www.annaghvarn.plus.com/italyforumsreformat.user.js

Finally the 'page width' is correct...

I don't have to scroll across the screen any more to read every post, or close my Bookmark Menu to give the posts a FULL page.

So - to whoever did it.... THANK YOU!

'It's appreciated'!

Lucky you!

Mine is still wider than screen width but then again I can usually find ways round when there is no response from the admin here.

I have asked a couple of times if there is a theme for the visually impaired on this site but I have never got a response.

Other forums I belong to have the option to change the way the pages are displayed – something to do with the disability discrimination act I think.

No such luck :nah: - it didn't last...

Back to as it was before.
I give up.
It's just a farce.
Even the clock is back to playing up as per usual. I think I'm somewhere in the Balkans in Eastern European Time...

Are you on full screen size Carole? I just dragged my screen size smaller in width and then I have to right scroll to read all the text.
