Culture Week Offers Free Admission to Monuments

Now through 17 April 2011, all Italian monuments and museums owned by the state are offering free entrance in honor of Culture Week.

La Settimana della Cultura offers visitors free admission to cultural sites throughout Italy. The Ministry of Culture and the Environment has organized over 3000 events and special exhibits to celebrate Italy’s rich artistic heritage. Culture Week also offers the opportunity to visit some archaeological sites and archives that are normally off limits to the public.

While the wait to enter some monuments and museums may be slightly longer than usual for early April, famous landmarks like the Colosseum and the Uffizi will open their doors for free. With unseasonably warm weather, the entrance delay is an excuse to enjoy a few extra minutes of Italian sun.

For a complete list of events, visit Il Ministero per i Beni Culturali e Ambientali (in Italian). Clicking on region of the map on the right hand side will bring you to a schedule of free events for that area.
