The White Lady shrinks

A lot of women would like to shrink, but this particular lady has rather overdone it: Mont Blanc or Monte Bianco, Europe’s highest peak sometimes known as the “White Lady”, on the three-way border between France, Italy and Switzerland, has shrunk by 18 inches or 45 centimetres in two years. Its height now stands at 15,782.3 feet or 4,810.45 metres.

Topographer Bernard Dupont said yesterday that the volume of snow and ice covering the summit had also dropped by one tenth but that the cause is not yet known as it would take thirty years of observation to be able to link this event conclusively to climate change. He added that measuring ice temperatures and precipitation further down the Alpine mountain would give a better indication as to the cause.

The expedition also discovered that the summit of Mont Blanc has moved 85.3018 feet or 26 meters closer to Italy but it will still be mapped as being in France. This lady knows what she wants!
