The global economic recession will significantly condition the outcome of the upcoming Formula One season and the future of the sport itself, Toyota's Italian driver Jarno Trulli said on Friday.

The economic crisis has already resulted in Honda dropping out of Formula 1.

''My goal will be to give Toyota its first victory in Formula 1. From what I've seen so far our car is promising. So if Ferrari or McLaren don't pull some rabbit out of their hat we may stand a chance of climbing up in the standings,'' he added.

''My partner Timo Glock, who was decisive in Lewis Hamilton winning the 2008 title, and I are very motivated and will do all we can to make a jump in the quality of our performance,'' Trulli said.

Hamilton was able to clinch last year's championship in the last race when, on the last corner, he passed Glock to earn the point he needed to beat Ferrari's Felipe Massa for the title.
