The small town of Casabasciana

While it is clear that Italian destination are the top-searched holiday getaways, and that 77% of Italians will vacation in their own country, the dedication of Carlo Pellegrini of Altopascio is hard to match.

Carlo, age 82, has been spending his holidays in the same town for 75 years. His vacation destination of choice is Casabasciana, in the Bagni di Lucca area.

Carlo first started coming to Casabasciana as a small child in 1936. He arrived in the Tuscan town on the back of a mule which he described as “sort of an animal taxi because there was no road.”
He was accompanying his mother to a mountain retreat that was recommended by doctors to treat her asthma.

Since then, he has never failed to return for his summer holiday. Carlo spends most of the warm season in Casabasciana with his wife Enrica.

Carlo was recently honored by the mayor of Casabasciana, as well as the mayors of Altopascio and Bagni di Lucca and the entire population of Casabasciana. The short ceremony recognized him as undeniably “faithful” to the holiday spot.
