Peggy Guggenheim Collection carries out extensive renovation of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni

Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, is currently carrying out extensive renovation work in Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, home to Peggy Guggenheim's museum on the Grand Canal in Venice. The work started on the 11th of January and will end on the 19th of February 2012.

The climate control system and the gallery lighting system will be updated with new energy-efficient technology, while a new project by New York landscape architecture firm Nelson Byrd Woltzhe will transform the Nasher Sculpture Garden under the supervision of Architect Isotta Cortese. The renovation of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni will be directed by Venetian architect .

During the renovation period, masterpieces from the permanent collection will be on view in the rooms usually dedicated to temporary exhibitions and the museum will be open as usual (daily 10 am-6 pm, closed Tuesdays). However, notice that on the 20th of February it will be closed. Until the 19th of February, reduced ticket charges will apply: 8 euro, and 5 euro for discounted entry.

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is among the most important museums in Italy for European and American art of the first half of the 20th century. Inaugurated in 1980, it presents Peggy Guggenheim's personal collection of 20th century art, masterpieces from the Gianni Mattioli Collection, the Nasher Sculpture Garden, as well as temporary exhibitions.
