The second series of the British TV comedy ‘The Trip’ will be filmed in Italy. The comedy series is directed by Michael Winterbottom, and stars Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan as fictionalised versions of themselves. The first series of the BBC 2 show aired in November 2010 and was later edited into a feature film. The series was nominated for the 2011 BAFTA Television Award for Best Situation Comedy and Coogan won the BAFTA Award for Best Male Comedy Performance. The ‘Radio Times’ reports that Brydon told fans on Twitter that filming in Italy will take in “many and varied locations”. Coogan told ‘Empire’ magazine: “We are going to Italy... We’re supposed to be retracing the footsteps of the Romantics, of Shelley and Byron and Keats, and I don’t know enough about it. I’m damned if Rob’s going to come across as an authority on it. It’ll be a great motivation for me to read up on it so that when we improvise, I can drop some information on him. Sometimes you try to compete with each other in improvisation by using dirty tricks.” The ‘British Comedy Guide’ reports that the second series is believed to have the same format as the first and that Coogan and Brydon “will visit various restaurants, and the cameras will record their conversations over dinner and their travels between restaurants.”
