George Clooney's Venice Wedding

This weekend in Venice is all about the George Clooney-Amal Alamuddin wedding. Yes, the couple is reported to get married next Monday, however festivities are taking place throughout the weekend, while scores of celebrities have arrived in the lagoon city.

The 7-star deluxe Aman Hotel, housed inside a canal-front palace, Palazzo Papadopoli, will host the weekend’s wedding celebrations, while the civil ceremony will take place at Ca’ Farsetti, a 14th century palazzo on the Grand Canal where the Venice town hall is located.

Given that the event involves celebrities, the Venice council published a city ordinance on Thursday announcing that the alleyways around the town hall will be closed to pedestrians between 12pm and 2pm on Monday.

Walter Veltroni, the former mayor of Rome and a good friend of Clooney’s, will conduct the ceremony.

More than 150 Hollywood stars are said to be in town for the wedding, including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Matt Damon, Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber, who’s expected to act as Clooney’s best man, Bono from U2, Andrea Bocelli, and Cate Blanchett.

For the wedding ceremony, Clooney is said to be wearing an Armani suit, while Alamuddin will wear an Alexander McQueen wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton, the same designer who prepared Kate Middleton’s bridal gown when she married Prince William.

Guests will stay at Clooney's favorite hotel in Venice, the Cipriani, where he has stayed many times.
