One of Italy’s greatest modern-day passion is technology, according to a research by Intel. One every two Italians is always on the lookout for the latest technological gadget; however, at the same time, Italy is last for innovation among the developed and emerging countries that were the subject of the research.

The poll was conducted in Italy and seven other countries including the U.S., Japan, France, Brazil, China, India and Indonesia.

Surprisingly, young people are those who look at technology with more suspicion, while women 45 years and older are the most passionate fans.

The most interesting data for Italy was in the age range between 18 and 24, the so-called “digital natives:” 50% say technology is too much at the center of society, and 76% think it makes us less compassionate and sympathetic. 93% acknowledge that it helps to make our lives simpler and better. There is a contradictory element though: 50% say they would like an ever smarter technology able to understand and register behaviors and preferences; for this, they would be willing to give up some of their privacy, like releasing personal data and communication.

The most enthusiastic technology fans in Italy are women 45 years and older. They think technology should be used more in everyday life and are great supporters of technological innovation.
