The general car industry may be going through a rough patch, but these are boom times for classic cars it seems. Classic Italian cars that is. The well-known, UK-based, Bonhams auctioneers recently sold a 1935 Alfa Romeo Tipo C 8C-35 for $9.4 million. This car is not only an amazing example of Italian design and engineering of the time it was also driven by the famous race driver Tazio Nuvolari. Nuvolari was the 1932 European Grand Prix champion and raced for Alfa Romeo's factory team - Alfa Corse. He then went on to join the Ferrari Scuderia, that ran Alfa Rome cars. This particular car, with Nuvolari in the driver seat, won a handful of races and was loved for putting up great fights against the Mercedes and Audis of the time. Such an illustrious history, some 80 years later, made this Alfa Romeo the most expensive Alfa Romeo ever, selling for $9.4 million this past weekend - to an anonymous buyer participating via the phone. Watch the thrilling last moments of the auction in the clip below: A slideshow of pictures of the car - a real Italian beauty - below:
