Hi, this is a question regarding INPS and if contributions made towards INPS in Italy can be transferred to the U.S. I was living in Italy and paying INPS for several years, I am now living in the U.S. and would like to know if I can access these contributions. I know that Italy and the U.S. has a reciprocal agreement but don't know if I can transfer my INPS to a social security account here in the U.S. I am no longer resident in Italy and don't intend to return there. Any advice will be much appreciated, thanks, Jan

I know absolutely nothing about US pensions, do they have such a thing as a state pension? However if it were the UK/Italy (or most other European countries), then EU apart they had/have reciprocal agreements that allow the combination of countries contributions to be used towards state pensions. Apart from that you can also claim a standalone Italian state pension if your contributions are enough to pass any minimum rules and you are of their state pension age, used to be quite low, but suspect it is not now... Then you should make a claim, no idea how you would do so.
