This turnkey ready, ground floor home is located in a peaceful corner of the historic center in the liveliest town of Salento. It is just a 13-minute drive to many gorgeous beaches! Located on a quiet side street, this home is a mere 2-minute walk to the buzzing main square, Piazza Salandra, where you will find many quaint restaurants, shops, wine bars and cafes. The fully furnished, 145m² home comes with vintage and antique furniture, small electrical appliances, some dishes and even gardening tools! It consists of a main house as well as a studio apartment, with a separate entrance, for guests. There is also a large rooftop terrace with a furnished sun deck and a 200m² fully enclosed, private monastery garden, which will immediately take you back in time with its towering stone arch. The historic garden has outdoor dining areas and is filled with tropical plants and citrus trees. It was formerly an ancient, subterranean olive oil press belonging to the neighboring monastery.
Renovated in a contemporary, industrial loft style, this unique house has large, full-length windows with wrought iron frames and a typical barrel vault ceiling with exposed stone dating back to the 1370s. The house guarantees tranquility, with all windows in the main house facing the interior walled garden. The spacious and bright living area consists of the dining room, living room, and half-bathroom, from which you can access the outdoor space; the custom-built kitchen with micro-cement countertops, low decibel washer and dryer, and top-of-the-line, stainless steel appliances; and a spacious master bedroom and bathroom with a glass loft and a large wardrobe that opens with a remote control. The house has a new gas boiler, 2 solar panels with a 200 liter hot water tank, 3 skylights with automatic rain closure and blackout shades, air conditioning, underfloor heating, 2 fireplaces, and 2 pellet ovens. The guest apartment is equipped with a separate entrance, kitchenette, full bathroom, pellet oven and terrace.
There is *no property tax* in Italy if this is your main residence and only property.
We've lived in several neighborhoods, and we've found that this neighborhood is *by far* the most peaceful, quiet, friendly corner of the town. The neighbors are incredibly sweet and the location couldn't be more central. You will be just a two-minute walk from the main piazza and about a two-to-ten minute walk from everything you could possibly need. SHOPPING: All of your daily essentials (food, drinks, bakery, fruit and vegetable vendor, cheese monger, etc.) can be found at the family-run stores around the corner. A bar/café is just next door to this store. Our favorite bakery is just off Piazza Umberto, as is a green grocer with local produce and great prices. The farmers' market is held every Friday morning and is worth a visit! RESTAURANTS: There are a couple of great pizzerias around the corner, and a wide range of delicious local restaurants in the piazza and all throughout the town. The regional cuisine is based on fresh local produce; it's both healthy and delicious, and it is quite unique. The pizza, focaccia, and pasta are excellent. APERITIFS/WINE BAR/PUBS: There are cozy places to drink "apertivi", wine bars and even an Irish pub within a 4-minute walk from the apartment! BEACHES: You will be a 10-15 minute drive from a number of gorgeous beaches. You will have your choice between long sandy beaches, dramatic rocky cliffs perfect for swimming and snorkeling, attractive beach towns with their own little sandy town beaches (where you can rent kayaks and explore the many hidden coves that are only accessible by boat or by swimming), and several protected natural areas with ancient towers and pine forests, as well as a small ancient fresh-water lake where numerous unusual species of plants and animals abound. Enjoy a beach day on a lounge chair at a lido or hike to a remote secret beach away from the crowds. You can go to a different beach every day! This town and its open-hearted townspeople are really something special.
