My OH has , in recent years, developed a reaction to perfumed soap, shower gel, shampoo etc. as well as to certain dyes. In England he is fine using the 'Simple' range of toiletries.

We've never had to make a travel insurance claim and were pleased we could get cheap travel insurance with Direct travel (about £54 for the two of us for a year, and that 's their premier rate not just standard.

Can anyone tell me anything at all about San Vincenzo, south of Livorno (eg. is it worth staying in that area for a few days)?

I dont know if Heiko is still known as Heikover in this community, but can I recommend his wine tasting evenings for the people in the Lunigiana area. We went to the June one and it was very informative and fun as well.

Why is there no book section anymore? I finally got round to reading "The Flight of the Falcon" by Daphne du Maurier. It certainly gripped me as I read more and I absolutely must visit Urbino now.

Could anyone tell me if, under Ryanair's new rules that all bags must be checked in online, the £5 fee applies to hold luggage AND hand luggage?

5 small or 3 really large very ripe bananas.   Juice of 1/2 a large lemon.    100gm peeled onion.   25gm butter.   1 large heaped tsp curry powder + ditto of flour 850ml chicken stock.   A little double cream.Puree bananas + lemon juice until smooth. Chop onion finely + sweat in the butter, without colouring, with the curry powder for 5 mins.Add the flour, mixing in well, then add banana puree + stock. Bring to boil, stirring frequently, season with s+p, + simmer gently for 15 mins. Liquidise again if want. Finish with a little double cream + adjust seasoning.A friend made this for us and it was lovely. I've made it for several people since.

Banana curry soup is also delicious and a good way to use up very ripe bananas. If anyone is interested in the recipe I can pass it on.

Has anyone discovered if the East Midlands /Pisa flights will be resumed in April.? It looks like we'll have to use the Birmingham flights in winter, but I dont relish leaving for the airport in the cold, dark early hours.

I always get my cash using my Nationwide account at Italian ATMs - HOWEVER I now make sure I go only to local banks as once we arrived in a thunderstorm and when I put my (wet) card into the machine the whole thing went beserk and kept my card. It couldn't be found when I enquired at the bank after the (of course!) bank holiday weekend and a special engineer had to be called out from Florence to delve into the entrails of the machine where it had been sucked. I had to keep checking every day to see if it had been found and eventually it was. If I had decided to use a machine near the airport instead of near the house it would have meant a lot of travelling to get it back. Luckily myOH had  a card we could use in the meantime. Interesting you can draw more cash out now.  On occasion when we've both had to draw 250euro for several days to pay a builder or something we've had to keep changing ATM as they ran out of money! Maybe that was the problem when you found it difficult to get cash Coppicer.Anyway, we're going again on Wed after what seems an enormous absence - 2 and a half months. Far too long to be away from my looking glass life. I'm really excited!ciaopam

Ryanair seem to be also dropping flights from East Midlands to Pisa. They are advertising Leeds to Pisa up to end of June next year. Jet 2 seem to have dropped Leeds to Pisa but still have Manchester to Pisa, but not in winter. One advantage of Jet2 is that they allow 28 days to check in online which is handy if going to Italy for over 15 days (Ryanair's limit) when you dont have a computer in Italy. A disadvantage of Jet2 is that the peculiar size of their hand luggage (unless it's changed) means it's more difficult to travel with only hand luggage. (Grateful for any suggestions for best Jet2 hand luggage). We have already booked a short trip in April from Leeds and a longer trip in June/July from Manchester.  It's a pity about East Midlands though as flight times were perfect for us and the airport so handy. I haven't checked for a few days so  all could have changed.Ryanair still do Birmingham to Pisa in winter but  flights seem expensive.  I wish Jet2 would  do winter flights to Pisa.

Villa is a lovely spot. Sometimes we go that way from our area when we want to go to Aulla. It is a very scenic route up over the mountain from Calice al Cornoviglio , just inside the Ligurian border in the Val di Vara ,and down   through Villa and Tresana. There are fabulous sea views from the top. We will be there from 16th Sept to 6th October, apart from a few days in the Chianti Hills. If you like walking, the Ligurian Way goes along the top and there are lots of footpaths on our side. When we first bought our house we inherited an old gas cooker and gas bottle which we used for a couple of years, although we checked the seal on the bottle. Heiko also knows Villa well and works on some land there. He also is part of a group that go walking in Lunigiana so maybe you could contact him in the forum.Hope you enjoy your new house (I'm sure you will).ciaopam
