We have the basic Sky contract here in Italy and used to be able to purchase Premier League matches on Primafila where the games were listed with a code and you could select and pay individually for those matches you wanted to see.

As there is such a wealth of knowledge in the Community I wonder if anyone has any advice/ suggested links about this query which I am posting for a friend who lives in Italy and is now an Italian resident.

Wishing all Community members a very happy New Year. Let's hope that 2012 is going to be better than the pundits lead us to believe. Whatever happens la bella Italia will come through it. I'm an optimist - and raise my half full glass....

Apologies if some of you have a sense of deja vu but, as the only reply to my earlier post under Ryanair charges for using credit cards etc was from Andiamo (thank you!), I thought I might get a better response under a more specific heading.A frie

No more complaints from me (for a while....) about Ryanair! I have read with interest, in the past, posts complaining / lauding Ryanair and my sympathies have tended to be with the complainers. Not any more .... at least for a while.

We have only just discovered VPNs (which I don't really understand!) to enable watching UK TV including Sky Go in Italy and had mixed experiences with the one we signed up to for 1 month as a trial.

Hi Maria and welcome.  I'm glad you have got some contacts now.  When in Italy we are in Northern Lazio by the Lago di Bolsena, a bit of a distance from you.  I hope that you find the Community helpful - I certainly have.

Hi Mick chick I found these after some digging.  Hope they are of help.  Sorry that they don't highlight so you can just click on them (well, they don't on my screen before posting, anyway), so you may have to copy them and paste them into your browser. Short version - http://censimentopopolazione.istat.it/_res/doc/pdf/multilanguage/short/English.pdf Long version - http://censimentopopolazione.istat.it/_res/doc/pdf/multilanguage/long/English.pdf  In fact, after posting they worked ok by just clicking on the link!!!

Like you pamela, I hope not.  I'm in England at present and we too had demos in London today and the weather was sunny!!  Not warm enough to swim though.  Regarding winning the vote of confidence - I do not understand Italian politics.  Perhaps others can comment.

I am pleased for you Bobbys Girl.  Thank you also for the information.  I am waiting for another carrier from Stansted or possibly from Southend to Rome!

A friend told me that they had booked Ryanair flights to Spain through Travel Republic to avoid the £6 each way per person admin charge.  Has anyone else used Travel Republic to book Ryanair flights and was it ok? I did some research a couple of days ago on flights for 4 people from Stansted to Rome at the end of September and coming back about a week later.  The flights I chose had no taxes either way.  The price of the flights via the Ryanair website was the same as booking them through the Travel Republic website ie £242.94.  On top of that Ryanair would then charge £6 each way per person admin charge - an additional £48.  However, on the Travel Republic website they charge 1.25% of the total cost if paying by debit card and 2.5% if paying by credit card.  My maths is not brilliant but I make it an additional £3.04 if paying by debit card and an additional £6.07 if paying by credit card.  Quite a saving.  I phoned Travel Republic and asked if Ryanair accepted bookings through them and they said that they did and sold a lot of Ryanair flights.  They take the booking on their site and Ryanair send the customer the confirmation email. Has anyone any experience of booking Ryanair flights through this or a similar company?  It sounds a good deal.

I used this recipe to make grape jelly last year though my grapes (grown in sunny Herts) are small black ones rather than white. http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7606/grape-jelly I don't see why it would not work with white grapes but am not an expert.  Perhaps you could research recipes for white grape jelly?  One batch of my grape jelly did not set so I included a sachet of Silver Spoon Pectin (1.3g for each 1kg of sugar).  The grape jelly is more like jam and is delicious.  I have requests to make more this year but sadly there are not as many grapes. I also made grape juice by completing stage 1 only of the recipe and that was very nice instead of the ususal orange juice.  I stored it in jars with lids in the fridge and it was fine for the 5 or so days it lasted before we had drunk it. By the way, I was too impatient to wait overnight for the grape juice so after cooking the grapes I put small quantities into a metal sieve and pressed the juice out of the grapes with the back of a wooden spoon.  It seemed to work ok.

Hi Carolina I hope all goes well with your move back to Norwich - "A Fine City" as they say!  I used to know it well as I lived in Norfolk for many years and still visit at least once a week when I am in the UK as my mother lives just outside Norwich.  Do let us know how you get on with the removal as the info would probably be of help to other community members. Best wishes.

Thanks for the link Annec.  Just as well they are self-cleaning!  Apparently they have sold many to the UK at the equivalent of £240 a jumper.  The 2nd series is going to be shown this autumn, according to the Times.

Thanks also to the above members for their advice since my last thanks.  All very helpful.  And, Annec, yes, more suspects ....  but will Lund change her jumper?  As the series is supposed to film consecutive days' action does she ever wash it?  Possibly, as she did appear in another jumper in an earlier episode, I think.  Does it matter?  On Thursday all will be revealed!!
