I have been told that I may be liable to pay towards the nursing home fees of my mother-in-law, with dementia, in France. We have been estranged and out of touch for over 20 years. I have heard that I can be asked to pay.

Not sure if I should post this here or legal. Can some one please clarify the law legal or unwritten on having bonfires from June until the end of summer and your obligation to clean your land.

Thank you, Now I know it is a one off, when we went to pay ici that year (we used the office of the sindaco) we were told it had been stopped. Surprised that the fine for non payment was only €10 The post man had a lot of recorded letters that looked like ours so there will be a lot of discussion going on.

Thanks Ram I was not thinking of having a bondfire my self but the person i employed to clean my land. Half my land is steeper than 45deg and i have not managed to get up there so I employed a local to clean and burn, the fact that he is much older than me and climbs up like a mountain goat does not bother me as i think I am helping support a local in need. I have seen fires here and it is very frightening seeing themm all around and how quick they can get hold. If I burn I take it down to the dry river bed where I am told it is safe.

A word of warning about using Italian plugs with adaptors. If you unplug and plug in again in a short time, ie to reset a device, and accidentally plug in the other way around [180deg] some devices have capacitors for stabilizing the power supply and plugging the other way around could blow a sensitive device. I suggest you put a mark on the plug and socket so to always plug in the same way.
