EasyJet's allocated seating is working out fine for me - without paying for selected seats.  I like to sit towards the back away from the wings but within 6 rows of the rear exit and not too close to the toilets.

Well, we've got to drive home either tomorrow, Friday or Saturday, as our ferry sails from Calais on Monday 3rd. After 5 weeks at our apartment a few miles from the Tuscan/Ligurian coast, it's time to leave. Reluctantly.

We arrived at our place in Lunigiana after a slow drive through France and three nights camping. Despite the slow journey we arrived zonked and we haven't been out of our garden since arriving three days ago.

I thought I'd do a post as nobody else seems to be saying much. We're off on our car journey to Italy on Friday morning (for the fourth time).

I have not been able to view the CiaoLunigiana website for a couple of weeks. Does anyone else have the same problem? Whether I type in the web address, or click on a link from google, the same thing happens.

Can somebody please tell me what the brightly coloured drinks are that I see Italians with late afternoon? Bright green, bright pink, blue.I thought it was granita, but I ordered and got a slush puppy.

Well, having just made a posting about living frugally in Italy, I have got in the mood and I am on a roll and there is no stopping me now. This time I want to talk about travelling by car through to Italy.

A terrible thing has happened. I dropped my Kindle down the stairs. It slipped out of its case and and slid to the bottom step and then somersaulted onto the floor where it landed with a crack. It switches on but then gives up and turns off.

I'm sitting at my laptop at the window facing the garden watching the first snowflakes start to come down. We're due a heavy snowfall tonight in Buckinghamshire. There's a blackbird sitting on the garage roof wagging his head around.

Once our contract was signed by all parties, the vendor was out of the door with his witness and the agent, the translator hung back because nobody had told us this was the time to pay her the cash sum, and the notaio told us as he departed ahead of us, we could stay all night in his office if we wanted to (joke?).  We were left to find our own way down the stairs to the street, and we emerged somewhat baffled that the proceedings had ended so suddenly without explanation after 4 hours of what seemed to us, Bedlam..

We have just taken posession of our newly purchased groundfloor appartamento and it has a fantastic electric canopy which extends over the kitchen patio doors and continues over the window of the room next door.  I had not appreciated the cost our vendor must have paid for it.  I have one question though - it is attached to the underside of the long balcony of our neighbour above.  Presumably our vendor had permission from the neighbour to fix it there - what are the legal implications if it causes damage to their balcony?  I expect we will be responsible even though it was not us who ordered/carried out the work in the first place.

Well Al, looks like we got off lightly.  Fortunately, we got out of the notaio's office just in time to go to the supermarket which shuts at 8pm (we started our appointment at 3.30pm) to buy a bottle to celebrate as soon as we gained entrance to the appartamento.  (And yes, we remembered to bring a  bottle-opener & plastic glasses from England).  Cheers!

Our holiday apartment is in North Tuscany, Lunigiana.  We have read reviews of good places to eat in the area, Bagnone, Filetto, Crespiano etc, and have tried some of them.  Sometimes there has not been a menu and we have been offered beef/pork/chicken etc, and it has come just like that , grilled or roasted, not as part of a particular dish.  I think that's what we are looking for, local dishes.  We have tried the chestnut specialities of Lunigiana (quite nice) but again, the same thing is offered every time in every place.  We want what mama cooks at home please.

Most of our visits to Italy have been short breaks in many, many locations.   We always look forward to the food and do enjoy it.  However, after a few days we start to find the menus repetitious.  Is it true we need to find good local restaurants and then give them notice of our next visit so a more elaborate meal can be prepared?  I read this tip in an Annie Hawes book.  The trouble has been that we have not been around in any area long enough to do this.  It will all change soon, as we are coming to Italy on Friday to sign the Rogito and, hopefully, get the keys to our new apartment.  We will still be holidaying in Italy, but our location will be more fixed from now on.  Looking forward to trying good local menus.

Just went to pick up cup of tea at work and heard BBC newsflash that G8 delegates are getting nervous because of the number of tremors.  They have helicopters standing by to airlift visitors out!
