Sending you all lots of warm thoughts.  The UK has got off lightly it would seem - minus 7 yesterday in the Midlands but the snow that came last week melted with 24 hours

Hi Italy2012 and welcome - we're also moving to Liguria shortly - by the end of 2012 dependant on selling our house here in the UK (it went up on the market this week) and completion of our house there. Whereabouts in Liguria are you looking to move to - our ruin is in Dolceacqua. We've been visiting the area now for 7 years and know the area from Imperia to Ventimiglia fairly well - if you're looking for a solicitor and or an architect etc I can share my experiences of who to use and who NOT to use. I'm not sure what you know about the regulations in Italy re B & B's etc they can be very complex and bureacratic - there are several threads here and on other boards that will fill you in.  As Godzillavilla has mentioned renting can be more straightforward and therefore more lucrative Good luck

I'm not sure why people seem compelled to make gross generalisations - I'm an avid cruiser (have departed from Venice but not the lagoon and agree that the size of some of the ships are obscene for some surroundings - Venice being one.  However not everyone who cruises follows a tour guide , nor are they all ignorant or do they all eat gross meals etc etc. Ive never in my life had a tour guide but can understand why for some people they are useful, not everyone feels comfortable in a country where they can't speak the language if having a guide helps them to experience the culture etc then that to me is a "good" thing. Plus they spend a fortune eating in the bars/restaurants that those more familiar with the city know to avoid therefore bringing cash to the city alongside all the other millions of tourists that frequent the city.  So this ignorant tourist is cruising in the Caribbean in a couple of weeks.......can't wait :)

And what about those on here who knew/know people affected by the tragedy - from someone who is 20 years away from retirement age, and lives/works in  that "hard" world!   I think it's a very unbritish/inhumane way to look at such a tragic loss of life

I'm not the most practical of people by any stretch of the imagination - however I was once told a great way of getting rid of dust is to blast a hairdryer on a cold setting over the area - might be worth a try?

Thanks Andy, I did know it was 91 days -I wasn't aware though of maintaining that as an average over 4 years.  I know it'll be 91 days and more for the first couple of years - then it's likely to be less so I'm assuming then I'll need to become an italian resident.  That really suprises me from HMRC I would have thought they'd have wanted people to pay tax.  I have a UK based limited company with UK clients so will need to keep the company in the UK.  All so complex.   New Years reolution is to sort this all out before we move which is likely to be Autumn 2012
