Actually I quite like this site. Although I do not post very often (don't really have much to offer), I have found it invaluable in gleaning information. We have a villa between Piazza al serchio and Sillano. Have only had it two years and use it as a family holiday home, but we personally spend about six months of the year there. I have got valuable information about taxes, heating and all sorts of things from you, and had a few laughs along the way. Perhaps I should post a bit more about our experiences with renovating and lack of the Italian language!
We must be extemely lucky then in our commune (Piazza al Serchio) I thought the public bins were widespread. I hope they do not change to house to house in the future as I agree it would be a nuiscance.
We have communal bins within walking distance. Problem is that they do not believe in recycling here. If you want to recycle then you have to drive a distance which nobody does. Rubbish if you ask me.
We are in Toscana in the mountains, where we can hardly use our mobile. We have to stand outside in the open, wave it around and hope for the best. But, we have just bought an Italian dongle linked it up to a router from England,and got a good deal from Wind - 15 euros a month for two years unlimited access to broadband. To our surprise we get fantastic reception, so now we use it to skype. We have had it since April and no bother at all. We just have to remember to top the card up each month with cash, but you can pay in advance. We still cannot use our mobile properly, so I do not know what the difference is. But it is great having unlimited broadband to catch up on everything.
No, we rented it for a week unpacked, sorted it all out and then drove it back to London. I cannot remember the cost but we were surprised how cheap it was at the time.
We hired a large transit from Europacar and drove it from the London area to Toscana. The rest we are bringing in dribs and drabs in the back of our Toyota Rav. Amazing what you can get in the back if you need to.

We always drive here from London, and always bring out tins Heinz baked beans. Nothing quite compares to Heinz!!
