About three years ago I was up to speed with the tax situation if you have property in both the UK and Italy but am not sure what is the case now.

Italian Mortgage adviceCan anyone recommend an Italian bank  or broker to approach for a mortgage for an Italian house which is being sold at auction but for which we would need an agreement in principal if our bid was accepted?

Buying a property at an auction/asta.We are considering buying a neighbouring property at auction 'senza incanto' and have been sent details of the solicitor dealing with the sale so it all seems above board.

I've just had a new satelite dish fitted but alas of the 600+ there are no channels for my four year old. I'm wondering if I can get a cheap package other than Sky with basic extras which would have channels like JImjams etc?

Just curious to know what people are paying for large-scale grass cutting in a rural area?

I have left treating my new cotto fatto a mano floors somewhat longer than planned and hence there's a small build up of bits of oil from dropped kids food and spilled candle wax.  Any ideas on whether I can remove these marks?

We have a derelict 300m2 farmhouse which we'd planned to make our home and to start renovation work in a few years . I'm hearing horrifying stories of people abandoning such renovations mid project owing to anti seismic regs pushing the cost up.

I've been full time in Italy for a month or so and have had time to try out internet options.

Does anyone know if the recent announcements on IMU had any knock on effect on IVIE? Wishful thinking on my part I'm sure...!

Oh...just when it was looking like something might be simple! Sounds like I should go into our local Agenzia dell'Entrate with the various options and see whch they think fits the bill. O joy...yet more queues! Will post my results to keep us all up to speed! Rx

Ram - you are a star! So, to make sure I've understood, whilst my only income is letting out he UK house but am an Italian resident, I can just fill in the modello UNICO MINI but can't have any discounts for my child. It is probably worth sacrificing any childrens' discounts on IMU etc just to save the extra tax form filling-in and need to employ a commercialista! Thanks so much for the help!

This thread is proving VERY helpful - thanks tutti! Interesting Penny regarding IVIE (tax on foreign property held by an Italian resident) -I'd assumed I'd have to pay this even if not fully 'fiscally' resident just 'elective' as Ram points out. It'll be an intersting one for teh tax office to sort out though because our UK home is jointly owned by my partner who is a UK resident 100% so presumably it's only half of the value of the house I'll have to find the .76% on? Does anyone know yet also regarding IVIE whether it is going to be the case that the Italian authorities will accept the council tax banding valuations as the value  on which to base the IVIE owing and also whether they will allow any council tax paid by me, rather than tenants directly, to be an allowed deduction?  I must say the thought of a 'simple one line tax return' has put such a smile on my face...my biggest fear with my move to Italy is the endless unfathomable paperwork everyone moans about! Have a good weekend everyone!

I'd be interested to know how you get on and if anything  comes up which is worth knowing! I understand you don't need private medical insurance now but a card from the NHS whose name I can't remember.... Good luck!

Thanks for your warnings on being self-employed in Italy Ram. I am also wondering how I will sort out my status in Italy. From March next year I should have residency and from the follwing September my son will start in the local scuola infanzia. Here in the UK I rent out my owned home and live in rented accomodation and will continue doing so when I move to Italy as this will provide a 'stable' income but i am also a free-lance classical musician and will be earning a little from this too. Probably mostly in the UK but hopefully also increasingly in Italy. I have been told by several people including my UK accountant that the taxes on the rental will simply stay within Uk and I'll be issued with some sort of paperwork that stops me being taxed twice but I am wondering how I'll sort out earning probably just a few thousand through musical earnings. Has any one else cracked this yet? I read somewhere that it is possible to seperate 'fiscal' and 'geographical' residency as it were - is that correct and what are the implications of that?

That's a crying shame for those of us who really rely on getting generous advice from someone like you who really seems to know what they are talking about. Can we still PM you for any advice?

Answer to: Removal Van
Tue, 08/14/2012 - 11:13

I was trying to find someone to go halves on a van but am not sure of timing quite yet. We would like to bring out some belongings from the UK to central Italy, Lazio (Rieti) so if we hired a van from the UK for a week it could get out to Italy and back I imagine. We are flexible about timing - at a push we could possibly be in a position bring out some stuff this Autumn/Winter.

Thanks penny - that 'laborincasa' guide was really useful. It's good to see there is an average guide price for a final 'fine' coat of plaster of €9 something...our overall price for three layers of plaster on 40 year old tuffo walls (a 40 year old outbuilding so pretty regular) was €28. So  now we need to work out what is fair to deduct from the three layers plaster quote . It has already been suggested we can't just take off the going cost of a final layer of plastering but this just doesn't seem fair as although the builder did sand (by hand) and seal the walls with fissativo this was included in under 'decorating' in the preventivo but we still seem to be charged the full whack for the plastering....Personally i think we should just remove around €9 m2 off the €28 price. Does that seem fair to you?
