Bonechi Imports was founded by two of us, Roberto Bonechi and Brita Holmquist. Roberto was born and raised in Florence, Italy, and grew up surrounded by beauty and the tradition of creating objects of utility and aesthetic elegance. Roberto moved to the United States in the early 1970s after meeting his wife, American artist Brita Holmquist.
We have been importing Italian pottery into the United States since 1984. It began that year when the three of us, daughter Lilias just two years old, visited family in Italy and brought home a few select pieces from Deruta to show to our friends and to local stores. The first shipment was just three wooden crates. With the success and popularity of the first few pieces, we returned each year, expanding our search for both traditional and more modern Italian ceramics further into the Umbrian region as well as to Tuscany, Apulia, Campania, and Sicily.
