The small hill town of Montappone [Marche] has been a millinery centre since the seventeenth century and now it celebrates its art in an exhibition charting the history of the cinema through the hats worn by actors.

At the “I Cappelli del Cinema” exhibition visitors will be able to see hats that were worn by Johnny Depp, Vittorio Gassman and Richard Burton as well as three of the creations worn by Kirsten Dunst in Sofia Coppola’s 2006 film, “Marie Antoinette”. Italian designer Milena Canonero won an Oscar for these. The top hat worn by Burt Lancaster in Visconti’s “The Leopard” is also on display, along with hats from “Barbarella”, “Gangs of New York” and “Life is Beautiful”. The last hat worn by Fellini is on show, too.

The show celebrates both Italian and international hat-makers and hats have been loaned by the most prestigious designers in Rome.

“I Cappelli del Cinema” runs until 26th September and entrance is free.

Open Saturdays, Sundays and festivals from 21.00 – 23.00.
