A classic of Christmas time, The Nutcracker returns this year in theaters around the world. London’s Royal Opera House begins its production on December 4 and stars Italian dancer Federico Bonelli in the role of the Prince.

The magical Christmas story featuring Tchaikovsky music will be streamed live in cinemas on December 12. It also stars Emma Maguire as the young Clara.

Bonelli was born in Genoa. He trained in classical ballet at the Turin Dance Academy before graduating into Zurich Ballet, a professional ballet company based at the Zurich Opera House in Zurich. In September 2003, Bonelli was made a principal dancer of the Royal Ballet, based at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden.

He follows in the footsteps of other Italian dancers who have found success abroad, like Roberto Bolle and Eleonora Abbagnato.

The Nutcracker is on show December 4 through January 16. For more information, visit: http://www.roh.org.uk/productions/the-nutcracker-by-peter-wright
