A New Kind Of Aperitivo in Florence: 'Slunch'

| Sun, 01/18/2015 - 03:00

A twist to the classic aperitivo has been introduced in Florence where, starting in December, the so-called “slunch” has become the trendy hangout appointment of Sunday afternoons.

Sort of a cross between supper and lunch, the slunch consists of a rich aperitivo that starts with dessert and tea and ends with finger food and cocktails. After all, if it begins in the afternoon and ends at night, it makes sense to start the other way around, no?!

The new trend has been launched by Cuisine Collectif, an association of chefs organizing cooking classes and special events including secret dinners. And for the slunch too, the location is secret and changes every time. To attend a slunch, you need to make a reservation by emailing cuisinecollectif@gmail.com. The venue remains unknown until the day before when participants receive an email with all the details. Evocative venues are usually chosen, such as a panoramic terrace in the city center or a farm in the countryside just outside Florence. It is all very informal, with buffet tables that allows participants to mix and mingle.
