“The most beautiful place to be is in love.”

This 1996 film directed by Bernardo Bertolucci and written by Bertolucci and Susan Minot has it all: mystery, tragedy, romance, humour and, of course, Italy.

Liv Tyler, in her first starring role, is Lucy Harmon, a nineteen-year-old American who sets out for Italy with two purposes:
She wants to see the boy she kissed there four years before and, her poet mother having committed suicide, she wants to find out who her father is.

There are hints in her mother’s diary that Lucy was conceived on the hillside above the Tuscan villa where she stays.

Soon Lucy decides upon a third purpose - that of losing her virginity - and she fascinates the men of the household. But which man will she choose?
