| Thu, 11/21/2013 - 04:00

The Festa della Salute is a religious festival celebrated in the city of Venice taking place every year on the 21st of November. The day is dedicated to the Madonna in thanksgiving for her intercession which ended the plague that struck Venice between 1630 and 1631.

It is a pilgrimage of thanksgiving to the basilica of Santa Maria della Salute on the Grand Canal and to facilitate the pilgrimage, a temporary wooden bridge is erected to connect Punta della Dogana with Santa Maria del Giglio.

Even today, thousands of people cross the votive bridge and reach the majestic Chiesa della Salute to give thanks and ask the Virgin Mary to keep them in good health.
