The wife of a prominent Sardinian dentist who was believed to have been kidnapped Wedensday evening was discovered Thursday morning, murdered in the trunk of her car.

Police said Dina Dore, 37, had a head wound and may have been killed during an attempt to kidnap here.

The car, parked in the family garage, was the same in which Dore's eight-month old daughter was found sleeping Wednesday evening, an event which led to police being alerted of a possible kidnapping.

Police were led to the car's trunk by a trail of blood found on the garage floor. There was no indication why police waited until dawn to open the trunk, well over six hours after a kidnapping alert had been issued.

Investigators said the MO of the attempted kidnapping was the same as that used in the February 1997 kidnapping of then-27-year-old Silvia Melis, who was released in November of that year.
