I have just received this from EuroTunnel re Breathalysers ; '' The enforcement of the law and the implementation of a fine for non-compliance have been postponed until further notice. However, as a precautionary measure, we recommend that drivers still carry in-car breathalysers.'' this backs up a friend of ours who was stopped the other week on a French Motorway by Police, and when he said I have a 'Breathalyser Kit' the Gendarme just shrugged as if to say 'so what'.... another ploy to extract Euros from people gone west....

From the AA website:  the French government announced that the implementation of the sanction for drivers not carrying a breathalyser – a fine of €11 – has been postponed indefinitely. So theoretically you are still required to carry a self-test breathalyser when driving in France but there is no current legislation demanding a fine for non-compliance.
