I was booked on the 18:30 Ryanair Liverpool to Treviso flight last Thursday which finally took off at about 20:45 , whilst waiting i contacted Hertz customer service to see what the procedure was as the hire desk which was due to close at 22:30 and our arrival time would be approx 23:30 to 23:45 , i was given a guarantee that the Hertz  desk would remain open , well at 23:45 when i arrived at the desk it was closed , luckily the Maggiore desk had remained open (waiting for a customer on the same flight) so i hired a car for 24 hrs drove to Lido Di Jesolo and finally got to my hotel at 01:00 (which was still open) . To cut a long story short the guy at the Hertz desk the next day  couldn`t give a xxxx , i am currently discussing this with  Hertz , who tell me that the desk should not have closed that quickly , i was travelling alone so there was only me to worry about , what if it had been a family with kids! , we shall see what Hertz have to say , Geoff .

I am sorry to hear of your problems with Hertz and hope that you get some redress.  Somehting similar happened to my daughter and her (female) friend in July at Fiumicino with Europcar. They had pre-booked and pre-paid for a car for a long weekend and had even paid a charge for late pick-up.  The BA flight from Gatwick was 2 hours late - but my daughter was still within the late pick-up time.  The Europcar desk had shut so and they had to sleep in the airport till 7am when the desk opened again.  The staff were very unhelpful and would not accept any responsibility saying that it was my daughter's fault.  Rather than eat even further into the weekend my daughter decided to take the car offered and left.  It had a quite a big dent in it - stated on the hire documents - and she thinks this was why the Carabinieri at Ciampino stopped her when she returned the hire car.  This is the only time I have heard of them stopping anyone there!  Europcar will not be getting her custom again.
