As the editor of ITALY Magazine, I receive various articles and promotional material about off-the-beaten-track locations around Italy with an underlying disappointing message: 'Forget Venice/Rome/Florence/Sorrento come to the real Italy instead!'. They often start with a list of supposed pitfalls of the most visited Italian cities and regions to convince people to go visit their area. Of course there is so much more to Italy than Tuscany or the Amalfi coast, but these other regions are so interesting and charming in their own right. We do not need to “put down the competition” in order to highlight that the rest of Italy is also great. All they need is a chance to be discovered. So if you come to Italy, do not miss Rome, Venice or Florence, but do not forget to add to the list of 'must see' places almost all of the remaining peninsula! This week we had some suggestion for you, Lake Bolsena area in the Tuscia region in Lazio and the Costa dei Trabocchi, near Chieti, in Abruzzo.
