Literature festival in Rome

If you are going to be in Rome between now and 22nd June you have a chance to attend the International Literature Festival at the Basilica di Massenzio in the Foro Romano.

This year’s festival has a sixties theme , “La Vita Dolce - il ritmo del pensiero “ [“The Sweet Life- the rhythm of thought”] and the organisers have planned a programme which , they hope, will encourage those attending to think about the decade in a new way.

Festival events take place in the evenings and each evening has a theme, too. Rather than reading from and discussing a recently published work, authors will read from their unpublished texts about the theme. An economist and seven philosophers are also taking part and there will be live music each evening. Women and foreign authors are well represented at the festival.

Tickets are free and are available only from the site’s ticket booth each evening from 7pm. They are allocated on a first come, first served basis. The festival website has good information on how to get to the Basilico di Massenzio.
