A Night Journey into Emperor Augustus' World

Tributes to Roman emperor Augustus on the 2,000th anniversary of his death, celebrated this year, continue in Rome.

The latest event takes place at the Forum of Augustus; called “A Journey through History,” it will – literally and figuratively - illuminate the ancient forum through film, animated images and sound, bringing viewers inside the emperor’s world.

Projectors cast images of ancient structures onto the marble and stone walls still standing in the Forum, while a narrated presentation can be heard through headphones in six languages, including English.

Devised and curated by science journalist and TV presenter Piero Angela, with his longtime collaborator Paco Lanciano, the show, through the visual and virtual recreation of the Forum and its decorations, reconstructs the daily life of ancient Romans in a public space.

"Stones can talk and tell many stories," organizers said.

The show continues until September 18 and is offered three times every night, at 9pm, 10pm, and 11pm.
