In honour of the 50th anniversary of the silver screen story of Cleopatra, this summer, a restored version of the infamous four-hour film epic fatefully made at Rome's Cinecittà studios, has been re-released and recently premiered, at the Cannes Film Festival. This week, we took you behind the scene of one of the world's most colossal, controversial and extravagant films. Julie Burns explained the difficulties encountered by director Joseph L. Mankiewicz in Cineccità and the scandal co-starring actors Liz Taylor and Richard Burton caused in the 1960s because of their love affair with the Vatican denouncing them for their 'erotic vagrancy.'

Among the actresses screen-tested for the lead role in 'Cleopatra' was Britain's best known diva, Joan Collins who has been celebrating her latest octogenarian status by touring her internationally acclaimed one-woman show, 'One Night With Joan' round the UK. We talked to her and explored her interesting career and various Italian connections.

Finally, as Italian cinema has produced a number of great actors who gained international fame for their incredible acting skills, we selected The Top Ten Italian Actors of the Past that we think contributed to represent the Italian talent around the world. Some of them are still making us proud interpreting great roles in many national and international productions.
