Amici di Italy Magazine,
In 1787, Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States of America and American founding father, embarked on a tour of southern France and northern areas of Italy. He regarded modern Italians as the heirs of the classical tradition he admired and studied intensely. His friendship with Italian itinerant surgeon and wine merchant Filippo Mazzei, also contributed to his interest in Italy. To celebrate the 4th of July on the year of Italian Culture in the United States, John Bensalhia looked at Thomas Jefferson's 1787 tour of northern Italy and his observations on Italian life in the late 18th century.
Fifty years after the release of The Beatles' first album 'Please Please Me', Italians still love the band. On the 7th of July 2013, fans will gather at Rome's Parco San Sebastiano to mark the anniversary. Carol King examined the Italians' enduring love for The Fab Four.
Are Italians still naming their babies after the local patron saint or their grandparents?
This week we looked at the latest trends in baby names in Italy, with Sofia and Giulia for girls and Francesco and Alessandro for boys still among the favourite Italian names.
This year we created a 2013 Italy Magazine desktop wallpaper calendar. We hope you liked the idea and downloaded the first months. It is now possible to download the July page.
A presto!
