A woman brought a very limp duck to the vet clinic.  As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, I'm so sorry, but your pet has

Hi Joy Its our 30th wedding anniversary next month, my wife is an angel to put up with me for so long it must be said. Well thats what our children tell me anyway, I just get "that look" husbands know so well from my wife. Anyway, we hit the coast at Civitanova, where would you recommend for fish or anywhere else for a splash out. I was thinking of Madonnina del Pescatore up past Ancona but it is a bit of a shlep. Thanks Charlie

S I use Skype all the time and I now find the service is equal to or better than a normal landline, no problems at all with volume or delay. I have a Skype In 0207 number in London (it could be in any of the major connurbations) my family call and it rings my Skype phone here. The cost to them is the cost of their local call to the London number. I do not need a computer switched on to receive a call because I purchased a Dualphone off Amazon for about 60 pounds which operates off a wireless dongle which plugs into my internet router. You can also plug in a normal landline of you so wish. Routers can be bought where you can plug in a 3G dongle from TIM et al if you wish to get rid of your landline. There was a post on this some time back. As for calls to the UK, I have Skype Out which costs a fiver and allows me to ring any landline in the UK or Europe for free. The only cost I have over the subscriptions is when I call my kids mobiles. Hope this helps. Charlie

I am sorry that Viterbo does not seem to be going anywhere soon, the third airport always seemed a Roman argument around Ciampino, but who knows. Perugia extended its runway to 2,200m a few years ago to take Ryanair's 737-800's and is now building a new terminal building a la Ancona. The Umbrian regional government presumably knows something we don't but may have its own agenda anyway. Its a smashing little airport if you can tolerate Stansted which I loath almost as much as Terminal 5. Not much use to the folks oop north though. Having driven past Charleroi on the way back a few months ago and given Mr o'L's difficulty with geography, Rome - Perugia anyone.....lol

Here is an alternative view to that of the Grauniad,http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article6945967.eceI agree with Angie and think that the three of them were involved in the brutal slaying of Meredith, who did what I do not know, only they do. Knox used the tried and tested US approach, blame it on the black man and it backfired on her when he was found to have a solid alibi, she was thus found to be a liar, what else did she lie about? As to the process, I do not think the American Legal System or indeed that of the UK is above reproach, one can only therefore put ones faith in the judge and six jurors who have sifted through all the evidence and found them guilty, inconvenient though that may be for the US media and the Guardian.

With all electrical goods, we have found the prices in the UK are markedly cheaper, allied to the fact that if your Italian is not good, the instructions might cause you the odd problem, as we had with our Italian washing machine. Unfortunately, just because Bosch has a model in Italy, it does not mean it has that model anywhere else.As for reliability, modern LCD televisions are extremely reliable with the likes of John Lewis offering 5 year warranty's. Try it for a couple of weeks before you go and it should be fine. However, as Chris says, bagage handlers take no prisoners so if you are not driving, ignore what I have just said. One of my abiding memories of landing at Fiumicino a few years ago was the suitcases and bags lying around the airfield where they had fallen off a baggage trolley.   Charlie

Answer to: Frassassi Caves?

AmarettoThe caves are very good indeed , with guided tours in English. But I see you are coming in the school holidays and so you may be interested in seeing if they still do guided tours in all the waterproof gear, safety helmets etc to the parts of the cave system the general public cannot enter. My kids did it when they were teenagers and loved it. The website should have all the details and also how you book the adventure tour. As to the journey, why not enjoy the scenery on the way up and use the autostrada on the way back.  Enjoy.

Just to update Nigelgh, you can also buy a dehumidifier which allows you to connect a hose so that the condensate can be run to a suitable drain, in our case the ground floor shower. The dehumidifer can thus be left running on a timer which can be set to cycle as much or as little as you wish. The dehumidifier will also generate a small amount of heat which will help with the cold. This tip appeared last winter from I believe Adriatica and it seemed a good solution to the problem of leaving your house unoccupied over the winter months.    C

ValentineI am not surprised your partner thinks that living in the UK would give him a higher disposable income given that when he lived there before good ol' mum and dad picked up the tab for all his living costs. From personal experience, I know just keeping the fridge stocked can cost an arm and a leg with a couple of boys in the family.    Once he has factored in mortgage, council tax, the cost of travel to and from work and all the indirect taxes so beloved of labour such as the £80 they would like for your ID card, let alone all the tax rises that must be implemented to cater for the fiscal deficit, then the picture is not nearly so clear cut. A lot will depend on where you wish to live and the basic cost of housing and the commute.   There are a number of threads on this subject so I would suggest that you try a search but to me it comes down to how you live, what your expectations are and the quality of life you would like for you and your family.Good luck in coming to the right decision for you all.C
