If Italian Politics/Politicians had common sense Gala, Italy would not be in the state it is in now both Politically, Economically and Socially. I think it's something no Governments do, is think of consequence/action; hence the enormous pile of DoDo we're in now.

Why isn't it wise Rickardo? Is someone likely to lay in wait and kidnap said Dog? or hold a mass protest outside Il Monaco every day through till the end of June? None of us here are members of Secret Organisations or a threat to National Security or possible Terrorist Targets (although I hear Esme has a bounty on her head) publishing ones whereabouts is hardly anything to hide.

For once I agree with Gala. Prima Casa rates are stupidly low (we paid €35 last year) and Comunes are struggling to make ends meet and local services are suffering greatly as a result. Regarding owning a second home, well if you can't afford to keep it sell it; and I know that is a near impossible task in rural areas, but if you use it and want the benefit you have to pay. We have neigbours who own a smallish second home and it only cost them €575 last year not a great amount in the scheme of things; but like all Italians paying any taxes cuts to the heart.

But Charlotte, are you happy with the fact that an Italian who is domicile in another country can influence how you pay your taxes, what social benefits you get and how these taxes will be implemented? Likewise if I was a UK resident would I be happy that a person unaffected by UK politics could influence how the country was run with no consequence? If you make a choice to live in another country and pay taxes etc in that country why should you have the right to influence other peoples lives in a country you chose to leave. This is not about Citizenship but purely ethics on choice.

Personally speaking, I think that the ECHR is right in their stance. Why should any Expat have the right to influence the Political direction of a Country they no longer have direct (established) ties with. If at any time a Citizen returns to his Native country them Voting rights are regained, so I cannot see the point in granting absentee voting rights over  the 15 year (which is plenty of time to establish ties with your chosen Resident country) cut off. Definitely a case of Cake and Consumption here I think.

And also the fluctuation in the Dollar v Euro, as their policies are all charged in Dollars.

Our Policy with Italsure/Clements also went up (about 22%) although no claims, but I understand from friends that prices of car insurance in Italy have risen substantially anyway (well you know about the standard of driving here) due to the high number of claims over the past year.
