As the summer heats up, there's no shortage of things to do 'all'aperto' (out in the open) in Italy. An aperitivo al fresco, a passeggiata with your friends or a show in one of the many wonderful open air theatres around the country. Italians rediscover their Greek and Roman past enjoying the wealth of an incredible ancient cultural heritage that comes back to life through the arts. From a Greek play in the Greek Theatre in Siracusa, to an opera at the Arena di Verona, from a pop concert in the Greco-Roman amphitheatre in Taormina to a ballet at the Terme di Caracalla in Rome, we still enjoy the stunning locations ancient Romans left us. This year we dedicated a series to the Ancient Romans' Way of Life to commemorate the 2,000th anniversary of the death of Rome's first emperor, Augustus. We started by looking at the Top 5 Roman Emperors and then found out What They Ate, What they Wore, How they Made their Houses, How They Celebrated Their Weddings, Why they liked Gladiators' combats. Whether you are passionate about ancient empires or not, if you visit Italy during the summer months, do not miss the chance to do 'like the Romans did' and experience history coming back to life with special events taking place in Greek and Roman amazing locations.
