After my success answering Annec's question, its my turn. However, I’m not clever enough for an ‘Italian’ question – so I’ll go for one with a ‘Greek’ connection insteadI’m a ‘sad’ man who likes numbers.

A UK mobile will ring 112 OK -  [but I'm not sure whether you can ring the other numbers Gala quotes without the 0039 prefix - someone will know.] Note - to ring 112, 999 and 911 you do not need to unlock a mobile phone - the system is over-ridden for these emergency numbers.  .

As you've already paid for the flat - can you sub-let it? .

You can pay in any agreed currency - subject to any charges/taxes etc being calculated, and paid, in Euros But I could be wrong.............  .

"I would like to leave the city early in the morning, around 0730 to 0800." Right in the rush hour then!  Possibly not a good idea for the first time 'Rome Driver'

Answer to: Calculating ICI

You can pay the ICI on line at http://equitaliasestri.pagonet.it/pagonet/bollettino_versamento.asp there isn’t an English version, but if your local ICI rate is unchanged from last year, [apparently mine is],  you can just copy what you wrote last year and pay with the credit card/ You can find out your ICI rate by visiting your Commune's website and looking for "Tariffe / Aliquote ICI"   [at least - you can on mine - and so I've showed it as a link so you can see the sort of info I get when I go into my local site]  .

I've often wondered - what happens if you don't renew it and then turn up at the UK border? [after all - you are still a UK citizen - aren't you?]  .

Make a note of their international contact number   -   it should be on the back of the card [not the '08....' number which your mobile usually can't ring from abroad].  Programme it into your mobile If it gets 'frozen - give them a ring straight away, and they should release it almost immediately.  Don't wait for them to ring you - often they call your UK number, rather than the mobile, and leave you a message to call them [no use if you're abroad!]  .

Also - if you are going to use your credit and/or debit card abroad, tell the card company before you set off - it may [only may] prevent their anti-fraud computer programme from freezing your card .
