A friend of mine is thinking about buying an ex-display kitchen from Italy and has been told that there would be no custom duties to pay on importing to England. This sounds strange to me. Does anyone know whether this is true?

Does anyone know if you have to pay custom duties if you take any of your personal furniture back to the UK? Gov.uk implies that you may have to but other sites "suggest" you don't. I can't find any clear guidance.

Previously the latest comments would appear on the top of the page. Now the page is in the date order of the original question. This means that recent comments (to old questions) all but disappear. Can this be rectified?

We've always found the Corpo Forestale very helpful. Not only do they give good advice but they even gave us a few trees free of charge (their trees are so cheap it wasn't worth charging for just a few)

I lived in Siracusa for 3 years, but many years ago now. It must not be missed! I found Taormina very touristy even in the 70s although the view of Etna behind the greek theatre is amazing. There is so much to see in the SE apart from Siracusa - Noto, Ragusa, the mosaics at Palazzo Acreide, the Necropoli di Pantalica

You need to look at the regional law 42 which describes the various options and what you have to do. You'll probably need article 56 - Case e appartamenti per vacanze. You'll need to make a declaration at the comune and, as Sebastiano said, report who stays, either to the comune or to the police depending upon the size of your comune
We had a bombolone installed free of charge but it has its downside. The amount they charge you will depend upon how much you use; they need to get their money back. We had our first refill after 3 years and paid quite a hefty premium on the gas. Notwithstanding this I don't regret the decision

I always intend to calculate my ICI but the lovely lady at the comune does it for me, as you say, in just a few minutes. On the insurance I'm getting quotes from Copeland, Groupama and will also try SAGA and will compare with Intasure and let you know. Although can't promise I'll compare all the terms.
