Italy boasts many beautiful parks and gardens, in fact there are over 1,000 of them affiliated with the network “Il Parco Più Bello d’Italia” (Italy’s Most Beautiful Park). Every year, a contest takes place to vote for the ten most beautiful ones.
This year they include: the panoramic gardens of Villa Medici in Rome, home of the French Academy; the English-style gardens of Ninfa near Latina in the region of Lazio; Villa Toeplitz in the Lombard city of Varese, the former country residence of a German noble family; Villa Borromeo Visconti Litta near Milan boasting fountains, a citrus garden and an outdoor theatre used for concerts and plays; the terraced gardens of Villa Grock in Imperia created by Charles Adrien Wettach, the so-called 'king of clowns'; Villa Serra di Sant'Olcese in Genoa, an English-style garden extending over nine hectares; the colorful Giardino dei Tarocchi sculpture garden in Capalbio near Grosseto, which features 22 monumental figures representing the greater mysteries of the tarot; the Garzoni historic garden in Pescia featuring Renaissance and Baroque elements; La Cutura botanical garden in Giuggianello (Puglia), with 35 hectares of rare cacti and tropical plants; and the 18th-century rural Villa Caristo in Stignano, the only example of baroque art in Calabria.
