We were among the first magazines in English to write about the three young tenors of Il Volo back in 2010, when I had just joined ITALY Magazine. They performed for the first time on the popular RAI 1 TV Show “Ti Lascio una canzone” in 2009 and stood out immediately for their incredible talent. However, back then few would have thought that Piero (Barone), Ignazio (Boschetto) and Gianluca (Ginoble) would have reached international fame with their first album Il Volo becoming the third best selling album of an Italian artist in the USA after Domenico Modugno and Andrea Bocelli. When I interviewed Gianluca, a year later, it was clear that they loved travelling around the world for their concerts but that they missed Italy. This is why I was really happy for them when, last Saturday, they won Sanremo Music Festival with Grande Amore, the biggest official 'welcome back to Italy' they could have wished for. I cheered also for Giovanni Caccamo who won the newcomers section of the festival with the song 'Ritornerò da Te'. Giovanni is from Modica, where I live and run my cookery school, and needless to say we all voted for him the night he performed at the festival. The interesting coincidence is that weeks ago we had planned to publish a feature about Modica this week!
