I have an apartment for sale on a hill overlooking  Lago Maggiore. It's one hour  by train north of Milan Central Train Station. But with COVID-19 I cannot travel to Italy. When the pandemic settles, and I am there, I can rent or sell the apartment.  One person or a couple can have the master bedroom for something like €50/night . For an additional €25/€35 for a couple I offer meals and teach Italian.

Prices in Rome for tourists are not expensive, probably in the south even cheaper, of course we are not talking about luxury hotels, even in the very center in Rome in the markets normal prices.

It depends on what kind of vacation you are planning in Italy. Personally, I flew to Rome for a weekend, and it didn't cost me too much.
