The aftermath of the L'Aquila convictions

I see that everyone is running scared after the ridiculous convictions of the scientists for not warning about the 'quake in L'Aquila. See: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22039903

That depends on your point of view.  A series of alarms ignored, a calming message, that 'theres nothing to worry about' go home and go to bed.  Doubt it would have happened in Japan.  Without knowing the whole story ridiculous seems a little harsh. 

We were evacuated that night as we live close to Barga. It transpired that the message to Evacuate was misinterpreted by someone in the Civil Protection in Lucca, who gave out the order to Evacuate all villages in the Lower Garfagnana area, it was not until after 2.00a.m. that we were told that maybe it was a false alarm, but overall most thought it better to be safe than sorry. Definitely a case of Damned if you do, Damned if you don't....
