Questions Asked

There used to be a little shop in Viterbo which sold Indian spices, basmati rice, poppadoms etc. I can't find anything about it now. Anyone know if it is still open? In bocco al lupo!

Ciao e tutti,After 13 years it has finally become necessary to drive to Italy! I suppose it was inevitable.

Ciao e tutti, The other day, on the phone, I was casting about for a good translation of "flat-out", as in driving, running etc. I ended up with the rather feeble massima potenza, or a massima velocità.

Well it is nice to be back.

I haven't been able to login or reset my password for days. I usually login automatically with my browser so it isn't "just finger trouble"

Just to follow up. My Tessera Sanitaria was renewed fairly easily but only for one year, not 5 years/permanent as intimated previously. I didn't make too much fuss as it didn't seem worth pissing-off the ASL until I need to & by then I'll have 5 years residency in the commune so they will have no choice.............. Pip pip

Ciao e tutti, I don't know about other people but I find the site painfully slow. So much so that when I click on something I always go somewhere else while the click is processed & the new page is loaded & come back later.   I don't encounter any other sites with such poor "latency". It is at least 15s always. A bit more haste would be appreciated. Pip pip

Very interesting Penny, I am in Lazio. Prov. di Viterbo. I have my "Attestazione di residenza permanente per i cittadini dell'unione Europea", Carta d'identita, CF, & Partita IVA all in place. My Tessera expires in July. I was told I would receive a permanent one upon (automatic) renewal. I will tell you what happens! Thanks for all your hard work & good luck with the new cittadino/a. That's interesting! I have used www.auto-europe.co.uk  &  www.autoeuropa.it  thinking they were somehow linked! as I usually ended up with a autoeuropa.it car either way. I shall bear that in mind in future!! The independent insurance is a real load off your mind. Have you ever seen the way Italians whack open their car-doors in car parks!! Pip pip

I regularly use them at Ciampino where they are extremely competitive I have always found them to be very good. Have a good look round the cars & bring any little scuffs & scratches to their attention. The tanks are quite often not full, so get them to mark that too! Decline any insurance & go for one of the independent companies like insurance4.carhire.com. I use Questor: www.questor-insurance.co.uk/q...insurance.asp In bocca al lupo! cool

Salve, I run an Italian scooter in Italy. I wouldn't be without it now. heart I can park it everywhere, I ignore ZTL's & senso unico's & I can get anywhere that a pedestrian can in tiny little streets & alleys. The cost of re-registering my scooter from it's previous owner was about €200. Annual insurance is about €200 (150cc Honda Pantheon) & the bi-annual revisione is about €35.  The difficulty & cost of re-registering a UK bike would be much higher. I Would find out what your local shops service & sell & see if you can build a relationship with them, or buy something Japanese & you probably won't need to see them that often. I would also recommend you buy something with good underseat storage so you can fit in your shopping or a couple of helmets if you park at the station etc. If you insure with www.genertel.it then you can start & stop your policy when you are away, or in the winter if the weather is too bad: "Sospensione e riattivazione del contratto online o con una semplice telefonata (la prima riattivazione è sempre gratuita)"   A good place to look for your scoot is http://www.moto.it/moto-usate/index.html You can search by, price, engine size, make & region. I found my scooter nearby & the seller rode it over for me to see.   By the way, a 125cc. means that you will not be able to use it on the motorway. I already had a full u.k. bike licence so I wasn't limited to a "learner" capacity. You might want to do your test in England before you go!   It is always best to buy a scooter in the autumn or winter when they are a good 10% cheaper. Go by mileage & condition rather than age as Italians like to have the latest of everything!   In bocca al lupo!  wink

My experience, The lights can be changed with stickers. You can then source some uk ones from a breakers at your leisure, if you want to. The speedo can have a stick-on scale applied to it to read in m.p.h. or fit it with an aux speedo as it has to have an m.p.h. indicator but  "it doesn't have to be the primary instrument" There is also some argument that a GPS with an m.p.h. display is enough.  You can also buy little boxes to change your speedo from k.p.h. to m.p.h. using the same scale! I just put m.p.h. markers on my speedo (nissan) and it never failed an m.o.t. , not for that anyway! YMMV Pip pip
