How did we feel about Michael o'Leary's view about flying through volcanic ash?  Would we be happy to fly with Ryanair as we'd have more chance of arriving at our destination, or more likely to fall out of the sky?

We are thinking of going to Sardinia for a holiday in June and wonder which is the best bit to aim for.  Have heard of Costa Esmerelda, any views on it?

Trip Report: Positano May 2009  After our adventures in Rome and Avellino Province in Campania (see previous trip reports) we moved on for the main part of our holiday, some serious chilling out on the beach.  We left our Agriturismo near Contrado

Trip Report Campania May 2009  We drove south from Rome stopping for lunch in Cassino, and drove up to the Abbey but everything was shut for lunch, a spectacular setting and many reminders of the conflict from WW2.We somehow missed our turning and

There doesn't seem to be a Campania section any more on this forum, I did a lot of research for our holiday on it....needless to say we had a great time, though got lost in Avellino every time we went there, it became our least favourite place tha

Oh no!! That was what happened with the Liverpool Ancona route... didn't show and then... didn't go!!!I thought that was a busy one that would keep going... not altogether convinced about Ryanair's plans, but no doubt there is method in his madness (or more profit in other routes).

Answer to: Roundabouts?

My husband's theory is that Italian drivers have an 'are you man or mouse?' attitude not only at roundabouts but at a lot of junctions, they drive right up and with nose out onto main road ... he was happy to be mouselike on quite a few occasions!

We had three weeks in Italy in May (see separate posts: Rome / Campania / Positano) and the weather was perfect.  We have visited Italy a few times before, are exploring south-wards over the years, and did notice a big difference between north and south with poverty and messiness in some areas.Probably going to other places next year, but will be back, I have my eye on Sardinia and Puglia... we are at 'post kids' stage so that makes life a lot simpler!I hope you enjoy your memories (the better non-domestic ones that is!)

We had no directions for the restaurant and and I am not entirely sure I can remember how we found it...  we parked in a square in the middle of the town and asked at a tabac closeby, they pointed down a very small street, and as we started walking down there realised there was a signpost to the restaurant... as we went down the street there was an even smaller one (more of an alley) off to the left with three chefs sitting in the sun!    If I can find some proper directions I will put them on.  We heard of the restaurant from the 'Food and Wine of Naples and Campania' by Carla Capalbo, and absolutely invaluable book if you are visiting the area as there are no detailed guidebooks that I know of.  It is available on Amazon.Do look for the restaurant and if Antonio remembers the two brits who wandered in during May and stayed for lunch and ate and drank everything he produced for us say hello from us!  We'll never forget it.

They seem to have come out of it pretty well, one assumes they still have the Italian property so can visit when they want and treat it as a holiday home.  Not everyone who makes the choice they did have the opportunity to get out of it so well...My brother lived in Australia for a while and decided he had given up the ratrace for good, will live by artistry (he was a pretty good artist) but he found the whole business of chasing commissions, meeting deadlines, not selling work he had produced far more time consuming and depressing than his previous life.  One phone call from a previous colleague with a tempting offer and he was on the plane like a flash!

Answer to: travel insurance

There was an article on this in the Daily Telegraph not so long ago, I think there are a few companies who insure older people, but I can't remember who they are.  Our travel insurance is now part of our bank account, Halifax Ultimate Reward, and the insurance covers us until older than standard ones.  you may be able to find something on the Telegraph on line.   Good luck.

We have rented property in the past from owners-direct, usually picked up on background info etc from the Italy forums.
