Christmas week has finally arrived with a mysterious fog over many Italian cities and kitchens warming up as families start their extensive meal preparations for this special week. While everyone has heard of panettone or other favorites that commonly adorn the holiday table, check out these traditional dishes that are popular this season but are less well-known.

Delving back into traditional holiday traditions in Sicily, our latest feature is a look at Christmas Eve on Italy’s biggest island, and the feast of 24 treats. Continuing with the festive atmosphere, have a look at our favorite Christmas Italian stories from foodie traditions to favorite drinks.

Many people have seen the beauty of Venice during the day, but the real magic lies in wandering the tiny, winding streets at night – we have the photos to prove it.  We also have already lined up the best cultural events you don’t want to miss in 2016, exhibitions and a commemoration for the 50th anniversary of the great flood in Florence (from 1966).

Our Italian-language tips of the week include a dual-language article on the Adoration of the Shepherds nativity by Giorgione, one of the Renaissance’s greatest artists and a handy guide on saying ‘Merry Christmas and Happy New Years’ in Italian.

Our recipes of the week include this crowd-pleaser, a delicious pear crisp with a whiskey caramel sauce and these orange almond biscotti served with Campari cream.

Need something for Befana or even a cheeky gift for yourself? Shop true Made-in-Italy products in our shop which includes a range of hand-picked items that have recently been added.

Featured properties for sale this week in Italy include a stone building complex in the region of Liguria, a beautiful villa (complete with in ground pool) in Andora (Liguria) and a restored nice country B&B with six bedrooms in San Remo.
