Wholesale lavender seller for hedging....cypresses...Roman pines...

Submitted by rachel68 on

I have set my heart on a really long lavender hedge going along the strada bianca up to our casaletto but can't afford to just buy plants straight from a standard nursery. It's a long road and my guess is that we'll need 100's of lavenders (would like to throw in some rosemary and oleanders too and to plant up a few more olives to edge the road too and make for a really lovely approach to our cottage. Does anyone know of a wholesale plant seller who would sell young plants by the 100's?

building false floor over old beams

Submitted by rachel68 on

We have some lovely old thick beams in a cow shed and over the top is the humans living area. Rather than remove these beams, which are looking very rickety but lovely, I was thinking about looking into building a brand new floor over the top so it is self-supporting into the walls and then re-laying the existing old cotto on the new floor. Essentially this means the old beams are no longer structural in the sense of supporting any of the real weight of the floor above. Has anyone done anything like this?

abundance of fruit and veg

Submitted by pamela on

Marito is an extremely keen gardener and so we have an abundance of fruit and vegetables. I would therefore welcome any pointers to websites, books or just ideas about how to preserve / conserve / dry / pickle / ferment produce. I prefer not to use sugar so hope to avoid the jams and chutneys spectrum unless these can be made without sugar.

Wedding in October

HELP!!!!!!!
My daughter is getting married in October and we would like a traditional group to play while the guests arrive and have a pre-dinner drink. We were thinking of a traditional group, ie. guitar, accordian. Also we need to transport 100 guests from Lucca to Manorolo ( 20 minutes outside Lucca ) for the reception. We have been quoted a horrendous price. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
