:eeeek:Thank you for that. My daughter opened a Nationwide account to avoid charges when she went on her round world trip, sadly the ATMs didn't seem to work with a Nationwide card in lots of places and she used eeeeek the credit card we had set up for emergencies... not quite what we had in mind...

I'm a Nationwide customer and have always used my Flexaccount card in Italy and elsewhere, but I've just taken out a Caxton FX Euro card, which is a "pre-paid" card which you "top up" on line or by phone. I liked the security of only being able to lose a fixed sum in the event of fraud or theft, plus it's Access, which may mean that it could be accepted in a machine if the Nationwide Visa one isn't. There are no charges for either ATM withdrawals or purchases.

(It's issued by Newcastle Building Society, which I hadn't heard of, and I admit that I didn't check to see if they were going to go bust in the next few days!)

We have covered this subject in an earlier thread this year but you may have missed it Chris and Steve. I pointed out this report re the Caxton card Caxton FX Ltd So keep your eyes open.
